Brigg Sixth Form provides a natural progression for those students who attend The Vale Academy and The Sir John Nelthorpe School through to the end of Key Stage 4. The Sixth Form is federated between both these comprehensive schools in Brigg, allowing for a fully integrated and jointly resourced college. In September 2008, we began to offer some subjects through association with Baysgarth Sixth Form in Barton upon Humber.
Brigg Sixth Form provides for the individual needs of its students both academically and in terms of the pastoral support that it offers. It seeks to further the strong partnership between students and parents that has already been established through Key Stage 3 and 4 and strives to enable all students to achieve their aspirational targets.
Brigg Sixth Form, although smaller than other local providers, seeks to present a variety of quality courses and continues to seek to offer new courses where appropriate. Students are the main focus for the provision and have an important role to contribute both towards the courses that they follow and daily student life. The academy continues to promote personalised learning pathways through the curriculum and further enrichment opportunities.
Our annual charity week continues to raise in excess of £3000 and, as a result, maintains a positive profile within the local community. The academy has expanded its involvement in extra curricular activities and continues to support the Young Enterprise initiative. As part of our enrichment beyond the classroom, we continue to offer educational visits to field courses, workshops, theatre and cultural locations throughout the country, allowing students to broaden and realise their full potential.
As we move towards new qualifications with the ever-changing face of Post 16 provision, the academy continues to strive for a greater range and diversity of subjects offered whilst consolidating and improving standards of teaching and learning within Key Stage 5. Effective monitoring, and student mentoring allows staff and students to set challenging targets and aspire to achieve in their chosen areas of study.
Through collaboration with universities and other local sixth form providers, we inform and educate students about possibilities in Higher Education.
We forge links with local employers to enable students to make informed choices. We continue to develop the KS4-KS5 transition through increased guidance, as well as open evenings and taster activities.
We aim to prepare students for progression beyond their school careers and to provide them with the qualifications and skills to become purposeful, successful and fulfilled members of society.
